Keep Your Campsite Safe These Spring Holidays

The spring school holidays are here, and campgrounds and holiday parks across the Clarence Valley are getting busier as families make the most of the warmer weather.

While you’re out exploring, swimming, fishing or spending the day at the beach, it is worth taking a few minutes to secure your campsite before you leave.

Avoid leaving phones, wallets, keys, cameras and other valuables sitting around your site. Take important items with you or lock them securely inside your vehicle or caravan.

Bikes, scooters, fishing gear, surfboards and other equipment should also be secured when they’re not being used. Even a basic cable or bike lock can make it harder for someone to simply pick something up and walk away.

Don’t leave car or caravan keys somewhere obvious around the campsite. Tables, camp kitchens, tent pockets and outdoor chairs might seem convenient, but they’re also easy places to check.

Before heading out for the day, close caravan windows, lock doors and vehicles, and avoid leaving expensive items visible through windows.

For tent campers, consider keeping valuables to a minimum. Small valuable items can be taken with you, while larger equipment can be secured to your vehicle or another fixed point where appropriate.

It is also worth getting to know the campers around you. A friendly hello to your neighbours means there are more people who may notice if something unusual is happening around your site.

Before your trip, take photos of valuable camping equipment and record serial numbers where available. If something does go missing, this information can help when reporting stolen property.

A couple of extra minutes securing your campsite can save a lot of trouble later and leave you free to enjoy your spring holiday in the Clarence Valley.
